Cultures Research Project
Learning Target:
- Today I will research a topic on different cultures and create a multimedia presentation with a small group
- Using academic vocabulary (research, criteria for success, performance task)
- So that I can share information in creative ways using technology
- I'll know I've got it when my project meets the criteria for success on the teamwork and presentation rubrics.

Performance Task
You are part of a team of cultural anthropologists opening a new museum on cultural diversity designed for elementary students. Your task is to select a cultural topic and research the topic on six continents – North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. You will choose one of the following cultural topics to research: Architectural landmarks, art, dance, games and sports, school, transportation, clothing, and food. You must explain your topic and tell why it is interesting and should be included in the museum. Make your pitch to the museum directors on why your topic should be included, using whatever digital multi-media tools will best make your case.
Standards and Criteria for Success
Your product must meet the following standards:
- culture-the way of life of a particular people, especially as shown in their ordinary behavior and habits, their attitudes toward each other, and their moral and religious beliefs
- cultural anthropologist - someone who learns about different cultures and then tries to communicate the interesting differences and similarities between them.
- cultural diversity - cultural differences that exists among people such as racial or ethnic backgrounds, language, dress and traditions
Standards and Criteria for Success
Your product must meet the following standards:
- Clear essential research question which fit your topic.
- Clear definition or explanation of your topic.
- Tell why your topic is interesting and should be included in the museum.
- Identified useful sources that are valid and reliable
- Notes are organized in a table that includes the citation, notes, and photos used from each of the six continents you researched. (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia).
- Wrote all notes using own words and key facts.
- Selected effective keywords.
- Presented all information in a clear and organized way.
- Selected a highly effective and creative format for the presentation.
- Included all sources used and listed sources in the correct format.
